Classes

In this two day class, students will be introduced to the exciting process of incorporating felt into jewelry making. In part 1, you will learn how to make wet felted beads i.e "sushi" beads, felted ropes/lariats, and flowers. We will discuss jewelry design and make felt components for a piece of finished jewelry. In Part2, you will learn to embellish jewelry with seed beads and incorporate your felt beads into a piece of lovely jewelry: necklace, bracelet, or brooch.

The price the class is $170.00*. This includes most supplies with the exclusion of sterling silver, if you choose to use it in your piece. There is a 20% non-refundable deposit for the course when you sign up.

Nuno Felt Scarf
In this one day class, students will learn how to create beautiful "Nuno Felt" by bonding loose wool fibers into a sheer fabric such as silk gauze, creating a lightweight, flexible felted fabric. With Nuno Felt, there are many exciting possibilities for creating transparency, textures, and layers of material with diverse characteristics. You will finish the class with a completed nuno felt scarf.

A Place to Weave is a wonderful studio in which to learn to felt and Beth Guertin is a gracious host for these classes. If you wish to attend one of the workshops you can vist her site and send a $10 non-refundable deposit per workshop to Beth Guertin to reserve your place.

The Flower Class is a one day workshop. The student will learn the basics of felting, 3-d felting, and embellishing the flower with seed beads. Students can make 1 to 2 beautiful felt flowers during the 6 hour class.
The workshop will be held on Saturday May 11 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The cost of the class will depend on the number of students attending. 4 students = $75 per student, 5 students = $60 per student, 6 = $50. The materials cost for the class is $45.

Rose Haven Farm Store in Picton Ontario

Picton Ontario is located in one of Canada's most beautiful areas of forests, lodging, camping, wine making and vacation spots. It is a wonderful place to come and make felt. My hosts, the Rose Haven Farm Store, have excellent facilities for learning to felt and to make beautiful garments. I will be giving three classes at the Rose Haven Farm Store from June 17 through June 22, 2013.

I taught a wonderful class here in 2012. Now I am back with another one-day class in nuno felt-making to create scarves. You will complete a project in the class.

Location: Rose Haven Farm Store, Picton, Ontario
Have fun creating a wet felt fascinator hat, wild and funky. Hat making is 3 dimensional so you will be learning how to use forms and work in 3-D. This class is suitable for both beginners and those with experience. You will complete a hat in the class.
3.) Four-day Nuno Felted Jacket Workshop
Wednesday, June 19 - Saturday June 22, 10 - 5, possibly earlier. Maximum of 8 - 10.
Cost: $575.00 including 2 lunches and all materials.
Location: Salvation Army Hall, Elizabeth St., Picton, Ontario
In this 4-day workshop you will be taken through all the stages to create a nuno felted jacket. On day 1 you will be shown how to dye the chiffon silk base, while in day 2 you will get to work out how to make a pattern suitable for a felt jacket that reflects you. By day 3, you will be into the felting process with we hope additional time on Day 4 to do further embellishment to make the garment truly unique. This is the second class that we have offered that integrates the design process and pattern making, so we hope this will intrigue a number of you. This jacket is very light and wearable both inside and out!

The vest workshop is suitable for beginners and felters who want to learn to make garments. The first day will be designing and laying out of the silk and wool. On the second day we will continue to lay out the wool and then move into rolling and finishing. I will teach fitting and scaling the garments.

The student needs to have knowledge of making flat felt, beads, sushi, and ropes. The class will cover creating complex forms that incorporate closures. We will cover cabochons, self-closing jewelry, and combining components. This is a two day class, the first day will focus on making components and the second day will focus on finishing, embellishing, and adding bead embroidery to enhance the design. In addition we will cover bracelets and rings, which present special challenges to create.
